Elizabeth Avalos, BVM is a member of the Sisters of Charity of the
Blessed Virgin Mary resident of Sunnyvale, California. Presently she serves on the Community Board of her Religious Institute. She is a member of the San Jose Diocesan Network to End Human Trafficking and works with Associates and Parishioners from St. Mary’s Parish in Los Gatos in their Partners in Mission to Ecuador.
Judy Borland, is an Associate of the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary, (SNJM), Co-Chair of the BACAR Board, and a resident of Pacifica, California. She volunteers at the Church of the Good Shepherd. Is Chair of the Liturgy Committee. Judy has organized Parish Retreats for RCIA Team Members, Sacristans, Readers, and Eucharistic Ministers.
Kathi Goodman is an Associate of the Sisters of the Holy Family, Treasurer of the BACAR Board, and a resident of San Jose. Kathi works on several issues, one is the prevention of human trafficking and another is assisting in the fight against breast cancer. She is also a Eucharistic Minister in her parish. Kathi works with the Sisters of the Holy Family as the Director of Finance, Congregational Treasurer and the Director of Human Resources, and with the Dominican Sisters of Mission San Jose as the Director of Human Resources. She is a member of the Associate Leadership Team for the Sisters of the Holy Family
Marilee Hearn is an Associate of the Religious of the Sacred Heart and is a resident of San Francisco, California.
Enrique Mierales, is a Mercy Associate (RSM) and a counselor at City College, and resides in South San Francisco, California.
Dolores Nice is a Mercy Associate (RSM) and is a resident of Redwood City, CA. Dolores is a Spiritual Director and Retreat Facilitator. She is a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and ministers at the county jail as a Eucharist Minister and Bible Study teacher. She also is a presenter with the Shared Scripture Program at Mercy Center.
Kathy Noether is a Sisters or Notre Dame DeNamur Associate, (SNDdeN), Co-Chair of the BACAR Board, and a resident of San Jose, California. She is a therapy assistant with her dog to schools, libraries, convalescent homes, hospitals, juvenile hall and hospice. Kathy is Board member for SNDdeN,CA Associates, and since 2003.
Elaine Sanchez, SHF is a sister of the Sisters of the Holy Family (SHF) and a resident of Fremont, California. She is a member of the Cross Bay Collaborative to Combat Human Trafficking. Works with Service Providers, Law Enforcement, and advocates in addressing Human Trafficking in the San Francisco, Bay Area. A member of the Tri-Cities Interfaith Council. She works with members of the interfaith community in promoting respect, understanding, cooperation, and appreciation of the many religious and faith traditions within the Tri-Cities area. This includes sponsoring programs, community service projects and faith events.
The BACAR Board wishes to thank Nena Fazio, SNDdeN, Michelle Hogan, Kay Sweeney, and Kathy Herrington who resigned from the Board December 2016.
Michelle, who is an Associate of the Religious of the Sacred Heart, has worked tirelessly as Secretary of the BACAR Board. We are extremely grateful for her years of service to BACAR. She will be missed.
Kay Sweeney, is an Associate of the Sisters of the Presentation
(PBVM) and a resident of San Francisco., California. We are grateful for her service to the Board.
Kathy Herrington is an Associate of the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary, (SNJM) and is currently on their Associate Leadership Committee. Kathy is one of the founding members of BACAR in 1989 and is Secretary of the Board of Directors of NACAR (North American Conference of Associates and Religious). She is a lector and Eucharistic Minister in her parish and visits the homebound. One day a week, Kathy drives elderly Sisters of the Holy Names to their doctor’s appointments. We are grateful to Kathy for her leadership and her service as Treasurer of the Board.
